Make-up Tutorial.

I think a great afternoon was had by all on Saturday whilst I taught 10 lovely ladies some basic ideas about make-up. The great thing about make-up is that most women like and wear it. The brief was to teach some natural make-up. So I had a model ( the lovely Dawn! ) and I prepared Dawn by doing half of her make-up before my ladies arrived. I then demonstrated the remaining half and the ladies had to go away and practice on each other what they had seen me do. It’s really fun when you work with make-up, trying new products and brands that you wouldn’t normally use or know about and to then come away with some basic skills and really see a difference just by doing a few simple things.

My ladies loved it so much that they are already thinking about booking their next make-up lesson for another look. I think we’re going to go a bit daring next time and do a sexy, smokey eye look!

Night out at the Cafe De Paris.

Whohoo! What a great night it was at the Cafe De Paris for the wedding industry awards! It was a really special night out with Carl, Lesley and Zara and apart from the actual awards being given, we had the opportunity mingle, dance and socialise with other people in the industry. Sarah Hewton formally Sarah Hughes a sky news caster and correspondent for the royal wedding was giving the awards and telling an interesting story of covering the royal wedding whilst at the same time trying to manage her own. Not an easy job! Any way, we have definitely decided to give it another go next year with the awards, so who knows! and well done to those who did actually win!

Really looking forward to going to the 2012 wedding industry awards next week, being held at the Cafe De Paris in London. Sadly we didn’t win but we did get in the top ten for our region which was fantastic. So, I can only say a massive thank you again to those who supported us. Also, I must say thank you to those hair and make-up artists that so brilliantly supported the business and continue to work in keeping the standards so high and helping to create a great wedding business. For those who have given the most support, ( including my boyfriend who has helped manage the web site side ) we are taking them on a “staff night out” to the awards to show our gratitude. So, it’s a good excuse for us all to get dressed up, have a bit of fun in this other wise quite time of year and have a great night out!

Being thrown in to the deep end on the first meeting, was no easy task for our new wedding assistant but she coped amazingly when we went to work on Friday. It was the usual early start but Abby turned up right on the button for our departure to Climping.

In my experience, the preparation of my clients always runs more smoothly having that extra pair of hands. Having some one who was already a qualified hair dresser, worked well for both of us and gave Abby a really good insight to the whole wedding process and getting clients ready.

When I had completed Jen’s ( the brides ) hair and make-up, she looked amazing and when her father saw her the tears rolled down his cheeks which was an emotional and personal moment for all.

Having finished the wedding party, we packed up, said our goodbys and head back to Hove. I’m sure Abbi will be working with me more, she was a great help to have around and I’m sure before long we will see the making of another great addition to our team.

Arriving out side the London address to meet Louise on Saturday, gave nothing away about what lay behind the big blue doors to then reveal the beautiful19th century gentleman’s club “Brooks”. As this was a private members club, we felt fairly privileged at having the opportunity of working with the bride and her party on her wedding day.

Louise introduced us to her bridesmaids so I could begin and before long I had 3 sets of rollers in and was now finishing their half up, half down hair styles.

I started with Louise’s make-up first ( because of the light fading ) and went on to complete the wonderfully simple bun style that she had chose for her final wedding look. There was no doubt about it, she looked absolutely amazing!

So, another good job done and time to go home. I don’t know if there would ever be another opportunity, but it would be really lovely to work at this beautiful location again one day.

Planning for Louise’s wedding in London.

Working between London and Brighton, really does give me the best of both worlds and planning to do Louise’s wedding last Saturday was some thing I was really looking forward to.

Originally Louise was only going to have her’s and her bridesmaids hair done, but when she had the trial she then decided to have her make-up done too and we both agreed we were going to use Jane Iredale’s mineral make-up for her sensitive skin.

So, all that remained was to make the time plan, make sure that we hadn’t forgotten any thing and for Yasmin and I to set off for this exciting venue and ensure that it would all run beautifully for the bride.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

One of the things that I frequently notice whilst doing clients make-up, is that often the eye area gets missed whilst moisturising. To apply good make-up, it really makes a great deal of difference in the application and final result If you daily apply a really good eye cream. Eye make-up can take on a crapey appearance and dragged effect if the skin around the eyes is dry. Of course this also has an aging effect. Now, there’s lots on the market, with much to choose from but one which I recommend to my clients is Clarins “Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate”. I use this my self and personally I find that If I don’t use it I really notice a huge difference. Clarins are really good as well in the sense that they will often give away a lot of little free-bies for you to try and especially if you mention that you are getting married. Always worth mentioning when you are at a make-up or skin counter if you are tying the knot you will be surprised at what free samples you might end up with.

Cain Manor In Surrey

Looking in to an inquiry for a client who is getting married at Cain manor next year, I was excited to learn about this particular venue that I haven’t worked at before.

Belonging to a group of four historic venues, including one in France, this exquisite Elizabethan oak framed manor house with it’s Banqueting hall, open fires and beautiful rooms was definitely a step back in to the past. Another important point that I noted was that the venue doesn’t currently have a recommended hair and make-up artist! So, I will make it my mission to track down the right person and get us on their list! Who knows, we may even be able to get in with their French cousins!

My job is a great way of getting to see all these amazing places around the country and on the odd occasion or celebration a wonderful excuse to then go for a lovely lunch or afternoon tea! It’s not all work!

2012 Wedding industry awards.

I just want to say “A big thank you” to all those lovely people who have voted for me under the wedding hair and wedding make-up category for the 2012 wedding industry awards. The great news is, we’ve now been notified that we have been shortlisted under both categories and look forward to the award events finals being held at the Cafe De Paris in London in January.

Freelancer of the year awards.

Being a member of the Freelance Hair and Beauty Federation, it was really good to see for the first time they are running a competition for the Freelancer of the year awards. There are a number of different categories, but I was very interested to see that there is a category for Bridal Service of the year.

Having been a member of this organisation for a number of years now, I would recommend all freelancers to take a look at the support and training that they offer. Not only do they offer this training, but they encourage freelancers to grow their businesses and bring up the standards with in the industry. I my self have been on numerous training courses with them, which are normally charged at very reasonable rates. The courses offered are often with some of the U.K.s industry leaders and in fact, it was from there that I begun with specifically my long hair training courses which were with the world renowned Patrick Cameron, which to be honest, has been invaluable to where I am now in the wedding industry.

So ladies and gentlemen, watch this space! I shall be putting the business forward and who knows what may happen.
