February is here now and it is the month most associated with love, because of the festival of St Valentine on 14th. Valentine’s Day has been celebrated in the UK for thousands of years. It probably originates from a pagan fertility festival in pre-Roman times. There was a Roman festival called Lupercalia in the middle of February to mark the start of spring. There were a range of fertility and marriage rites associated with Lupercalia. As Christianity spread across the Roman Empire, including much of the UK, this festival became a day of remembrance for St Valentine. Later in this post I will be giving you a couple of fail safe classic beauty tips for Valentine’s Day.
Classic Valentine’s Day Beauty
Like it or not , Valentine’s Day is fast approaching in a mere matter of days. Whether you are spending it with friends, a loved one or even your mum, there is no reason not to add a bit of glamour to the proceedings. One major thing about your Valentine’s Day make up is to look and feel great, so it’s really important not to go overboard. The number one thing to avoid is thinking that you need to look like a completely different person. Your husband, boyfriend or partner wants to see the ‘you’ they love, so make sure you look like yourself, but your most gorgeous self, so enhance your best features don’t mask them. Here are just 3 classic ideas that you can use together or separately
Strong but Neutral Eyes
If the look you’re going for is soft and innocent, neutrals are a great basis for eyeshadow combinations you want to wear.
For daytime wear it can be paired with soft pink or nude lipstick. While for a bolder more sexy night time vibe try a classic red lipstick and add a bit of metallic gold to the lids. Perfect for your all day
Valentine’s date! This Becca Neutral Eyes Palette is great, the soft velvety ombre nudes work well together to help create a perfectly contoured eye. You can layer the shades for more intensity. Available in the UK at Space NK
On this romantic day, you may want to achieve a very simple yet very sweet look. A little blush on your cheeks, soft corals on your eyelids and a subtle red-orange lipstick will do the job. Nars have the perfect range of blushes for the job in hand. The rather racily named Orgasm is simply gorgeous. It is a medium, slightly warm pink, with very subtle gold highlights and has achieved rightly deserved cult status.
Bold Red Lips
Not everyones’ cup of tea, or even glass of Champagne but a classic look nevertheless! Pulling off a bold red lip this day will be sure to grab everyone’s attention. Pair it with very subtle (almost non existent ) eyeliner and lots of mascara for maximum impact. MAC Mac Red ( this is not a typo Mac Red is the name of the shade of lipstick…. so good they named it twice) is possibly one of the best satin red lipsticks around. It is fabulous as it manages to be all of these at once …… medium dark, cool-toned red that is a bit bright. It really seems to suit all skin tones and is buildable if you layer. The longevity of this lipstick is fabulous too, not sure how great it is for kissing though !
All of us at CWH would like to wish anybody getting married during this month of love a wonderful wedding and happy life together.
