Finding the perfect foundation can seem an impossible task – too yellow, too cakey, too oily – but when you do, it is truly a wonderful thing. The correct foundation acts as a canvas for the rest of your make-up, concealing imperfections, unifying skin tone and creating a flawless finish. Autumn is a time when all the major make up houses are launching new foundations, but which one is worth trying out? I will be reviewing several later in this post. First a few photos form some of our amazing team of stylists.
Our amazing creative director and founder used vintage inspiration for lovely bride Lisa’s wedding look. I think she looks gorgeous!
Lisa got married in the sunny seaside town of Whitstable in Kent. She got married at a local church and had her reception at the Hotel Continental. Following extensive refurbishment, the Continental features pretty Art Deco exteriors and beach-chic interiors. The hotel is directly on the beach front with Whitstable Castle is just behind, so the venue offers opportunity for some amazing photos.
Katrina is one of our lovely team of stylists and she covers the South West of England area. She created lovely hair and make up looks for pretty bride Camilla and her bridesmaid.
Holly our talented stylist who is also based in the South West , was busy with a wedding hair trial and has sent this photo of a perfect bridal updo.
Elloise is our skilful stylist who covers the Sussex area. At CWH we don’t just design bridal party hair and make up and this lovely photo is a great example of hair and make up for a wedding guest .
The Best Autumnal Foundations
As autumn creeps ever-closer, though, there’s something appealing about the idea of starting to properly paint our faces again. We’re more likely to want a more full coverage, too, as the flattering glow of sunshine – never guaranteed during British summertime, anyway – begins to fade, and our skin reacts to cooler weather. While choosing a new foundation should be a relatively painless process, it can become tricky finding the right one for you. I have rounded up a few of the current best ( I think ) around at the moment.
La Mer’s Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation ( yes I know it is a bit of a mouthful) is impressive as you would expect from a brand synonymous with luxury and style. It delivers a creamy finish and has great coverage and staying power without being too mask like.
Chanel, another luxurious brand has come up with Sublimage Le Teint, again this foundation offers incredible coverage but manages to look pretty natural and not caked on.
Giorgio Armani Luminous silk foundation is easy to build, and long-lasting – and it comes in 21 different shades, so you’re bound to be able to find one that fits. This is available at Debenhams amongst other places.
For really full coverage, you could try one of the foundation, concealer combinations that seem prevalent at the moment . The key is to apply one light layer all over and to build up just on the areas that you need more cover. Kiko Skin Modernist is one of the best.
One of my all time favourite for a more full coverage foundations is Mac Studio Fix Fluid . It has an oil-controlling formula that offers a natural matte finish with medium to full coverage and just the best staying power.
Burberry have come up with a total winner too, their Bright Glow Foundation is just that, a natural looking skin tone and a fantastic glow. A really gorgeous product.
Last but by no means last is Rhianna’s much lauded new range of foundations with her company Fenty BeautyThis line was launched at Harvey Nicholls earlier in September and is incredible not least because there are 40 different shades of foundation on offer for all skin colours. They are affordable, long lasting and very wearable.
I hope that this helps a little with your choices.
